Twenty-two biographical sketches from the pen of a central leader of the October 1917 revolution in Russia. Leon Trotsky commanded the Red Army during the civil war of 1918-20, was a founding leader of the Communist International, and helped lead the fight to defend Lenin's internationalist course against the counterrevolutionary policies of growing petty-bourgeois social layers that came to be headed by Joseph Stalin.
