Description
This small pamphlet vividly relates the drama of a five-day, unofficial strike in the Italian city of Genoa in November 2013 – how it was prepared, how it was fought and what it achieved. The process of privatisation and job destruction in public services was resisted and brought to a halt, in spite of politicians and trade union leaders who said such things were inevitable. Of course, this is not the end of the story. Many more battles impend in Genoa and across Italy before a generalised struggle to usher in a socialist society develops.
Members of ControCorrente, the organisation in Italy affiliated to the Committee for a WorkersÂ’ International, played an important role in developing this struggle, pointing to importance of leadership and democratic discussion in building the determination and fighting capacity of workers.
